Black Women on Boards (BWOB) is a new global organization that took notice of the significant gap of Black female executives that are missing from board positions and has taken action since then. Founded in 2020, the organization’s efforts have created more visibility for the underrepresented group — 16 Black women on private, public, and advisory boards to date.
A historic moment at NASDAQ Tuesday as African-American women who sit on executive boards across the country rang the opening bell. It's all part of a moment to both recognize and expand opportunities for Black women to serve on executive boards of the nation's biggest companies. New Orleans native Deb Elam took part in the bell ringing.
One of the earliest decisions we had to make in founding BetterUp was whether or not it should be created as a not-for-profit or for-profit enterprise. It was a serious question. We first met through volunteering with Youth Leadership America, and we connected around inspiring these young individuals.
